About us
Street Side Jazz Band
is a traditional jazz ensemble based in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Formed in 2011, the group is composed of tenor saxophonist William Christian, Bassist Steve Dufrene, and drummer Kory Fontenot. SSJB plays traditional style jazz, which includes music from a range of styles within the genre such as swing, blues, Latin, ballads, and funk. The group can be seen performing at local venues in Lake Charles and surrounding areas. The Street Side Jazz Band would be a perfect choice of musical entertainment for any occasion.

William Christian

Original member: William is
originally from Orange, TX. He
teaches woodwind private lessons independently for William Christian Woodwind Studio, and was formerly a saxophone instructor at both Little Cypress-Mauriceville school district (his alma mater) and Swicegood Music/Right Note Studio. William studied at McNeese State University and was given an Outstanding Soloist award during the 2012 McNeese Jazz Festival.
Lake Charles Jazz in the Arts featured William in the spring of 2016 as their special guest artist. William has performed with notable groups such as The O'Jays, The Harry James Orchestra, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The Rory Partin Big Band, Leif Pedersen's 1944 Big Band, The Lake Charles Big Band, and The Lake Charles Symphony.
William served as president of the Rho Zeta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and was a member of the Iota Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi.
Steve Dufrene
Bass, Backing Vocals
Founding member and band leader: Steve is from Lake Charles, LA. He holds a Master of Arts degree in music education from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston Moore's School of Music.
Steve's 20+ years of live performance experience includes playing in bands of various genres in both Louisiana and Texas. His jazz career began in 2004 for notable musicians such as Sparky Koerner, Jack Truett, Dave Barry, and Marsha Frazier.
He currently teaches elementary music in Dequincy, LA. Steve has directed award winning choirs at both the district and state levels for the past 14 years.
Kory Fontenot
Drums, Backing Vocals
Kory is a Louisiana native who has been performing in the area for over two decades. He is versatile in many genres of music and is featured on recordings by several top bands from the region.
In addition to performing and recording, he is a private lesson instructor for the Lake Charles Young Band Nation , where he teaches drums, piano, guitar, bass, harmonica, and vocal techniques.
An accomplished singer and songwriter, Kory has gained widespread notoriety for his one-man band performances.
